Jane Zich

Artist’s Statement

I have always been intrigued by fluctuating psychological states, conflicting perspectives, and the sense of multiple planes of reality occurring simultaneously. Various natural evolutions and physical transformations, dream states, and mystical experiences are corollary fascinations. Exploring ways to depict these slippery, ephemeral experiences visually has been a central concern of mine as an artist. Water is a natural visual metaphor for conveying such fluidity. Water is inherently changeable, dynamic, enveloping, amorphous, and unpredictable, very much like imagery from the unconscious, which is the primary "source material" for my mixed media paintings.
