Old Toys

Statement

I am a NYC-based writer and painter who often uses my own childhood toys in my visual art. I still have a sizable collection and have a "till death do us part" feeling about them. Stuffed animals particularly inspire me. As a single subject, they suggest so much: history, warmth, innocence. And the older and more worn they are, the more emotion they convey. Using oils is especially helpful in depicting their almost transparent wear.

Pia Quintano is a New York-based writer and painter who tends to do paintings which suggest a story or emotional history. Her paintings were sold at the Frank J. Miele American Folk Art Gallery in NYC until it closed.
